Noor Dubai Foundation, an NGO that was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to combat blindness and visual disability, concluded its activities to mark “Zayed humanitarian Day,” an annual event held in the memory of the founding father of the UAE, late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Ramadan 19 named as “Zayed Humanitarian Day,” is an annual event in memory of the late Shaikh Zayed and aims to inculcate the spirit of giving and philanthropy.
Noor Dubai foundation in partnership with The Prime Minister's Office, Emirates NBD, Social Bandage, 1971- an NGO, the Mousaadah (assistance) Committee at the DHA held several screenings to mark Zayed Humanitarian Day.
Dr Manal Taryam, CEO of Noor Dubai Foundation said: “We held several screenings specifically targeting labourers as well as visitors to educate them on the importance of regular eye screening and eye care. During the holy month of Ramadan, we started the free screening program, which began on the 14th of July and concluded today, to mark Zayed Humanitarian Day. The free eye screening programs were held at DHA headquarters, Emirates National Bank of Dubai ( ENBD), Dubai Islamic Bank, Emirates Transport and at the Al Muhaisnah Medical Fitness Centre.
The free screening was held for staff members and visitors and included screening for diabetic eye disease.”
She added that the foundation distributed free self eye-test kits, so that people can screen their eyes at home every three months. “This is extremely important for diabetic patients and through this screening program we emphasized on the importance of regular eye screenings.”
Salem bin Lahej, Head of the Moussadah (assistance) committee at the DHA said: “ Keeping in line the vision of Sheikh Zayed, the founding father of the UAE, we are pleased to have held this initiative, which provides free eye screening and consultation to a wide audience base. While health screening is important, health education is equally important so that people are aware of the importance of regular eye checks and are able to take care of their vision throughout their lifetime.”

This year, the bank has taken on the task of promoting better eyesight among the blue collar workers in the UAE, through partnering with Noor Dubai Foundation to conduct free eye checks in cooperation with Al Jaber Opticals. The initiative, which is in line with Emirates NBD’s Passion for Giving campaign during the Holy Month of Ramadan, will also see several volunteers from the bank assisting during the eye checks.”
Mahmoud Al Marzooqi, Director of Government Communication in Federal Authority for Government Human Resources( FAHR) stressed on the importance of this collaboration and said: “FAHR is glad to participate in this event which revives the memory of late Sheikh Zayed. Our volunteers participated in this event and we distributed gifts to the labourers and visitors who took part in this eye screening.”
Social bandage and 1971 also distributed gifts to all the participants of the free eye screening program.
